
Kirsty Coventry is a Zimbabwean former competitive swimmer and current politician. She is one of the most successful African swimmers of all time, and the most decorated Olympian from Zimbabwe.
Early Life and Education
Kirsty Coventry was born on September 16, 1983, in Harare, Zimbabwe. She began swimming at a young age and attended the Dominican Convent High School in Harare.
Swimming Career
Coventry’s swimming career was marked by numerous achievements, including:
– Olympic Games: Coventry won a total of 7 Olympic medals, including 2 gold medals, 4 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
– World Championships: She won 5 World Championship medals, including 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
– African Games: Coventry won 13 African Games medals, including 6 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals.
Politics
After retiring from competitive swimming, Coventry transitioned to politics. In 2018, she was appointed as the Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation in Zimbabwe.
