BUSE Champions Integrity as International Anti Corruption Research Conference Gets Underway in Bulawayo

BULAWAYO — Bindura University of Science Education Vice Chancellor, Professor Eddie Mwenje, officially opened the 2nd International Anti Corruption Research Conference at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to advancing research while actively promoting integrity, transparency and accountability.
The international conference, running from 4 to 6 August 2026, is being hosted by BUSE in partnership with the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission and the Research Council of Zimbabwe under the theme, “Leveraging Disruptive Technologies to Strengthen Anti Corruption Strategies.”
Prof. Mwenje emphasised that BUSE is committed to doing more than simply researching corruption. The university is actively putting integrity into practice by embedding a culture of transparency and accountability among staff and students through institutional anti corruption regulations and integrity pledges.
The ongoing programme features a diverse line up of speakers drawn from government, academia, anti corruption institutions, civil society, business and technology.
Among the speakers are ZACC Chairperson Honourable Michael Reza and Research Council of Zimbabwe Executive Director Dr P. Chikudza, bringing perspectives from Zimbabwe’s anti corruption and research institutions.
The conference also features Professor Munyaradzi Shambira, Africa Centre for Inclusive Health Management, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at Stellenbosch University in South Africa, and Dr Ishmael Mugari, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Law and Criminal Justice at the University of Botswana.
Other speakers include Ms Jessie Mhaka, Executive Director of BeMindFit, Ms Gay Rudoakwashi Chindudza, Managing Chief Executive of Rock Kapital Investments, and Mr Mike Kamungeremu, Managing Director of Tendo Electronics Pvt Ltd.
Zimbabwean civil society and technology expertise is also represented by Mr Tafadzwa Chikumbu, Executive Director of Transparency International Zimbabwe, Mr Ephraim Chawoneka, Chief Executive Officer of the International Credit Rating Agency Zimbabwe, and Dr Nelson Ruwa, Director of the Zimbabwe Centre for High Performance Computing.
The conference brings together researchers, policymakers, technology experts, business leaders and other key stakeholders across jurisdictions to explore how disruptive technologies can be harnessed to strengthen the fight against corruption.
By creating a platform for international knowledge exchange and collaboration, the gathering is expected to elevate Zimbabwe’s global research profile while opening opportunities for impactful partnerships in developing innovative approaches to transparency and accountability.
The conference further underscores BUSE’s growing leadership in anti corruption scholarship and Zimbabwe’s contribution towards shaping integrity frameworks capable of responding to emerging governance challenges.
As technologies continue to transform financial systems, public administration, information management and governance, the Bulawayo conference provides an important platform for examining how innovation can strengthen transparency, detect corrupt practices and build more accountable institutions.
