RUSHINGA, Zimbabwe — Mubvundudzi Secondary School in Rushinga has received a major boost to its learning infrastructure following the handover of a new classroom block constructed by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and funded by Mutapa Gold Resources through Freda Rebecca Gold Mine.

The new classroom block was officially handed over today by Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander, General Emmanuel Matatu, marking another significant partnership aimed at improving access to quality education and infrastructure in rural communities.

The project demonstrates the impact that collaboration between the private sector, public institutions and local communities can have in addressing infrastructure challenges within Zimbabwe’s education sector.

In addition to funding the construction of the classroom block, Mutapa Gold Resources also donated various educational resources and equipment to Mubvundudzi Secondary School.

The donated materials included desktop computers and monitors, textbooks, exercise books, pens, desks, chairs and other stationery and learning resources. The donation is expected to improve both the school’s learning environment and access to Information and Communication Technologies for learners.

The support forms part of Mutapa Gold Resources’ corporate social responsibility and community development initiatives, particularly through Freda Rebecca Gold Mine.

For Mubvundudzi Secondary School, the new infrastructure and educational resources represent more than additional classroom space. They provide learners and teachers with an improved environment for teaching and learning while strengthening the school’s capacity to deliver modern education.

The involvement of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in constructing the classroom block also highlights the role of national institutions in supporting community development projects beyond their traditional mandates.

The Mubvundudzi Secondary School project demonstrates how partnerships involving the mining sector, Government institutions and communities can contribute towards sustainable rural development.

As mining companies continue operating within communities across Zimbabwe, investments in education, healthcare, infrastructure and other social development initiatives remain important in ensuring that mineral resources contribute towards tangible improvements in people’s lives.
